So, at last, this chapter is closing,
In conjunction with the skies,
These relationships so deep and strong
Are finally loosening ties.
Yet there is no emotion,
Left in my heart or head
All heartbreak, and disappointed tears,
Have many times been shed.
The years of trying to fit in with you,
Are far behind me now
All the ways I would diminish myself
No longer do I allow.
Mixed emotions came back to bang on the door,
And I sat with them for a while
Inviting each one in and listening,
Then releasing it with a smile.
Reminding my ego-self, “we’re good”
As not everything needs a reaction,
No longer am I paralyzed
I am free of any contraction.
Even though I am aware of this incredible shift,
It is only within myself
I am a different person now,
I got down from that shelf.
